이번 연구 결과는 공학 분야 국제학술지 Engineering(IF 12.2, JCR 기준 분야 상위 약 2%)에 게재되었습니다.

Professor Yong-Jin Yoon’s Research Team Develops an AI-Based Vision Framework for Quality Recognition in Aerosol Jet Printing
Professor Yong-Jin Yoon’s research team in the Department of Mechanical Engineering has developed an AI-based vision framework that can automatically recognize printing quality in aerosol jet printing (AJP). AJP is an additive manufacturing process that enables the precise deposition of functional inks for micro-scale electronic components. However, stable quality control remains challenging because printing quality is affected by process variation and material heterogeneity.
To address this issue, the research team designed a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based quality recognition model. The model applies the self-attention mechanism, a core concept of large language models, to manufacturing vision tasks. It combines self-supervised pretraining using large-scale unlabeled image data with fine-tuning using labeled experimental samples. This enables effective defect recognition in AJP even when labeled data are limited.
This study improves defect detection in AJP and suggests an intelligent quality control approach that can be extended to various material deposition processes. It also provides a technical foundation for real-time process monitoring and data-driven manufacturing automation.
This study was published in Engineering, an international journal in the field of engineering with an Impact Factor of 12.2 and a JCR ranking in the top 2% of its field.
